My first artefact is based on Memory. I thought it was interesting how people keep memory boxes. Whether it’s from a particular time in a person’s life or all the important things from throughout their life, I thought about how we can fit everything that is important to us in a box. So I took some photos of some of the things in mine. I’d forgotten about most of the things in it. The objects I photographed are especially important to me. My Cuddly toy reminds me of my 7^th birthday, when my dad took me to Hamleys and said I could pick anything. So I picked Simba. It’s my version of a safety blanket, sometimes, it still is.

I used to go on adventures with my toy horse. I imagined where she came from, places we’d see one day.

I had a Polaroid of Christmas a few years ago, one of the best I’ve ever had. It reminded of how much my family means to me.

There was also my school record of achievement, which I hadn’t looked at for years. It made me wonder if it is as important as my teachers made me think it was, I haven’t used it to get anywhere, which they told me I would.

Birthday cards, from my 16^th, 18^th and 21^st birthdays. They help me remember the days I celebrated it, especially my 21^st, that’s the best birthday I’ve ever had.

I love to travel. Whenever I go somewhere I keep a ticket or something small to remind me of the places I’ve been. Places where I can relax and forget about what’s happening at home.

I took pictures of these objects specifically because they are the most significant things in my box. Some are good memories, some aren’t. My record of achievement for example, reminds me of school, which I hated. When I look at it I remember what happened to me, and I laugh, thinking I let people make me think things about myself that I shouldn’t have. It reminds me to never let that happen again, it’s why I keep it.
